You know, that quiz got me thinking last night as I laid in my bed trying to get my eight hours of sleep......(By the way, this link http://www.newsweek.com/id/113270?from=rss will take you to the article on sleep deprivation. You should all read it. It'll have you scrambling for your footie jammies in seconds. I mean, to react in the same manner as people who have had no sleep...Geeesh)......anyway, as I unsuccessfully tried for sleep I started thinking about a few things that were not on the quiz....
Like.....
1. Saying the word "like" as every other word in a sentence. I cannot, like, tell you how long, like, that took, like to get over. Oh and "not"...still say that one..."NOT" (I can hear the click of computers being turned off all over the world....or at least Suzanne's...
2. Speaking of computers, I remember my family getting our first Commodore 64, baby, and playing Spiderman on it which showed one screen the whole time, and you needed to type out where you thought Spiderman should go, BUT he NEVER went anywhere. Hmmmm, I feel like saying to these yougin's....you kids don't know how good you have it.....
3. I remember Reagan being shot and how scary it felt although I honestly wasn't sure who the man even was being six or something like that......it's a vague memory, but I can still feel the fear.....
4. Oh, and I was in my fifth grade classroom when the principal came over the loudspeaker and said that the Space shuttle had exploded killing all on board including the first teacher who went in space.
5. I remember seeing the Berlin Wall being broken down and thinking how amazing it was to be alive when people were being freed from a life of communism.....did anyone buy a piece at Kmart? I never did......kind of wished I had.....
6. On a personal note, I got my appendix out when I was ten on March 17th, 1985. I remember the exact date, because it was St. Patrick's Day, and I missed out on all the fun.......I also remember wanting a milkshake which the nurses promised me that I could have the day after my surgery. When I woke up from said surgery, I thought it WAS the next day, and yet those "evil"nurses wouldn't give me my milkshake. I was sooooo upset.
7. Did anyone roll up their pants into cuffs? Hee, hee still waiting for that one to come back.....
Anyway, those are just a few memories from the eighties....I have to admit that it isn't my favorite decade. I, personally, love the nineties.....well, specifically, 1995 when my handsome man FINALLY stopped looking for love with short twits.....I mean women and paid attention to me. Now that was a year to remember. =)

1980's
I have this absolutely beautiful idea for a blog that talks about how my son wrote this fantastic book for his daddy called "I love you Dabby" (he is currently confusing his "b"'s and "d"s). My heartfelt writing would cause tears to stream down your face and want to wake your kiddos up to give them a hug. BUT, my friend Barbara posted this eighties quiz on the myspace bulletins and since I am loathe to repost it on myspace (aka scared that people will find me horribly immature), I decided to reminisce (ouch need a spellcheck on that word) about the eighties here on blogspot. So without further ado.....
IF YOU WEREN'T BORN BEFORE 1987 DON'T EVEN ATTEMPT THIS QUIZ
1.How old were you in 1980? Ripe old age of five. It's handy being born in 1975. Makes the math a bit easier.
2. How old were you in 1989? 14
3. Were you a Toys R' US Kid? Am now. =) And Barbara, what is the Children's Palace anyway??
4. Did you watch Transformers?"More than meets the eye"
5. Did you see E.T. on the big screen? Such a great memory. I saw it at a drive in. Do you know what those are Barbara?
6. Did you own a Lite Bright? No, but my cousins did.
7. Who is your Favorite Golden Girl? Didn't like them then. Don't like them now.
8. When someone says " Who you gonna call? "Ghostbusters" Another drive-in show. Yeah.

10. Did you have a Pogo Ball? Nope. Couldn't balance on the things anyway.
11. Did you listen to New Kids on the Block? No. Yes, I was a strange kid.

18. Did you ever own a slap bracelet?No.....geee, this is getting dull.
19. The Breakfast Club or Sixteen Candles? *Sigh* I don't think I have ever watched either one.
20. Did you have a crazy hair style? My friends taught me how to curl my bangs.....so I went to school all proud of my self. Had curled my bangs but didn't know I was supposed to tease them out. Went to school with two big fat rolls for bangs. Surprised the bus driver didn't fall off her seat laughing. My friends fixed it of course. Oh yes, plus, I decided to get my hair permed. Yikes. Those were scary days.
21. What was your first bike? It was a pink bike I got when I was five. 2
2. Name one thing you still own from your childhood?Hmmm, I still have the blanket that I stole from my brother that my grandma made him. BUT, I did that in the seventies.....*Sigh* I am so old.
23. Did you have a Cabbage Patch Kid?Yes with a pony named Snowball.
24. Did you dress like Madonna? No way.

26.Did you watch Miami Vice?No
27. Did you own a pair of Jelly Shoes? I don't think so.
28. Did you own a Trapper Keeper?Yes
29. Atari or Nintendo?Both!
30. Did you play Pac-Man? Yes, but I loved Mario
31. Which was better: Jem or Barbie and the Rockers? I hate to dis Barbie, but I did like watching Jem
32. He-Man or She-Ra?She-Ra, but I liked them better when they were together. I think I always hoped they'd get married. =)
33. What movie scared you the most? Poltergeist. I was supposed to be sleeping at the drive in, but wasn't. I still remember that tv. Oh, and Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.....*Shiver* (Again, should have been sleeping.) I had nightmares for years.
34. Did you try to dance like Michael Jackson?Yep.

41. Can you name the family members from National Lampoons Vacation movies? So did not like those movies.
42. Wally-World or Europe?See above
43. What was your favorite movie from the 80's?Hmmmm, E.T. was nice...... Ghostbusters was ok......hmmmm OK, so I just did a search of eighties movies. By far, my favorite: Top Gun.
44. Will you repost this to any of your friends that were in the 80's?Why are questions like this asked anyway??
OK, a few days ago, I read an article on a recent study on sleep deprivation....fairly high mortality rate for people who get less sleep....anyway, need to get my eight hours in. G'night.
P.S. I spelled "reminisce" right on the first try. Go me. =)

New Couch and loveseat...well sort of
We bought our couch and loveseat when we first moved to Georgia about five years ago. That's not so long ago, now is it? Unfortunately, we accidentally chose furniture that does not wash off well and after four years and three children, the couch and loveseat were looking a little sad. Then, when "Grandpa" decided to take a pencil and poke a hundred holes through the sofa cushions, the furniture looked like it was ready to be put out of its misery.
Enter Surefit slipcovers. They have a special stretchy suede fabric that clings to the furniture giving it a little hug which is well deserved after five years in the Sproul family. Plus, they are machine washable which I know for certain, because Kyla wasn't feeling very well the day before yesterday, and I am sure you can use your imagination as to why the slipcovers needed to be washed. =)
Anyway, I love my chocolate slipcovers which have saved us quite a lot of money.......now I need to find new pillows. =)

I've been tagged....now what do I do?
OK, my friend Suzanne and the ONLY person who comments on any of my blogs tagged me with the instructions to tell seven things about myself that I have yet to post. Since I have only posted a handful of posts, this should be fairly easy. Soooo, hmmmm, let's see....
1) I keep my microwave on top of my fridge. I love it. I could never find a good spot for the lousy thing until I saw my friend Suzette had put hers up there. Yes, I know, this may be easier fo rme, because I am five-ten, but, to my defense, Suzette is only five-four. Of course, she uses a step stool, and it was really her six foot plus husband's idea....but still, it's nice.
2) I am allergic to quaternium-15 and formaldehyde and therefore any formadehyde-releasing preservative. Most of you would say so? Or what's quaterniwhat? Or maybe even, well I guess disecting frogs is out for her (which I did in tenth grade by the way). BUT, if you check the ingredients of your baby wipes, most of you will find quaternium-15 in the ingredients or check your baby shampoo or any shampoo for that matter. If there isn't quaternium, there is probably a formadelhyde releasing preservative. *Sigh* Anyway, it does make it difficult to find shampoo to use (Clairol Herbal Essence) or soap, and if I use any "bad" stuff my hands break out and they get pretty dry.
3) I love amazon. Things are expensive here in Hawaii (five dollars for a gallon of milk on base, eight dollars off) and forget ever trying to get anything shipped here. The shipping is usually the same price as the item purchased. Enter amazon. At Amazon.com, if you spend $25 your shipping is free. They have tons and tons of things from movies, toys, and electronics to the Cetaphil hand cream that I purchase to help my hands to not be so dry. Plus, over Christmas, my items purchased from them were sent to me by second day air to guarantee they'd make it by Christmas. I have no doubt that the shipping cost more than my items that were at least fifty percent off. =)
4) I can't mention amazon without mentioning Craigslist. Craiglist.org is an online yard sale. You can sell or buy pretty much anything including getting rid of stuff for free. They have a site for pretty much every city. It's nice for me, because many people are moving from Hawaii and sell their stuff cheap rather than pay for it to be shipped over. I've even sold stuff on too. Yeah Craigslist!! =)
5) My husband wrote me a song to ask me to marry him. He got down on one knee right there in the snow (we lived near Buffalo, NY at the time), placed headphones on my head and pressed play. It is by far the most romantic thing he has done, although buying a dozen roses, having them individually wrapped, and placing each one with a little poem in various spots throughout the day (including driving to my job with three kids) is a close second. I adore him, although I think that has already been said. =)
6) I do not like nonfiction. I am an avid reader, and can finish a fiction book in one day (if I ignore all that I need to do which is usually the case when I start to read....I don't read as much as I used to...(If you get a chance read The Choice by Nicholas Sparks. I had to put the thing down and go hug my hubby), but I just can't get into nonfiction. Even biographies are hard.
7) I am a South Beach junky. In July, I first started the diet. There are three phases. Phase One is where you eliminate all fruits and breads (carbs) our of your diet for two weeks. Sounds hard, I know, but it cures you of any carb cravings that you have. I didn't even crave chocolate after the two weeks!! Phase Two is basically eating healthy (think whole wheat stuff and fruit). I lost twenty-five pounds in two months, but gained ten back over Christmas ( You would not believe how many cookies I ate.) Went back on it this past two weeks and off are the ten pounds. This time, I will stay away from the cookies.....well most of them. =)
OK, there it is. Thanks Suzanne for the tagging.
Hugs to all,
Laurie
